Around 29 kms from Thrissur is one of the most sacred temples of south India, the Guruvayur temple. This ancient temple is aptly known as the Dwarka of the south is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple posted on a small hillock, has the simplest architecture and is built in the style of local Kerala houses. There are many legends attached to this temple and the name comes from two founders of the temple, Guru, the teacher of the Gods and Vayu, the God of winds and disciple of Guru.
